Nature of our service
Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Ireland provides Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for children, teenagers and adults at the First Floor, Baldoyle Badminton Centre, 4 Grange Avenue, Baldoyle, Dublin 13, D13 E8Y2. Classes for children and young people include Kids BJJ (ages 4 to 8), Kids BJJ (ages 9 to 12) and Teens BJJ (ages 13 to 17).
Our commitment
We are committed to safeguarding the children and young people who train with us. All children have the right to take part in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a safe, positive and encouraging environment. We work under the principles of the Children First Act 2015, Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children (2017), and Sport Ireland safeguarding guidance. Our safeguarding policies have been in place since 2023 and were reviewed and updated on 1 August 2026.
Risk assessment
We have carried out an assessment of any potential for harm to a child while availing of our service. This assessment was reviewed and updated on 1 August 2026. The risks identified, and the procedures in place to manage them, are:

| Harm arising from one-to-one contact between a coach and a child | Coaches are never alone one-to-one with a child. Classes take place in an open training area and parents and guardians are welcome to stay and watch every children’s class. |
| Harm caused by an unsuitable person working with children | All coaches who work with children are Garda vetted through the National Vetting Bureau and have completed Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 training. |
| Physical injury during training | Classes are age-grouped (4 to 8, 9 to 12, 13 to 17) with an age-appropriate curriculum delivered by qualified coaches on a matted training area, with supervision at all times. |
| Unauthorised photography or filming of children | Photography and filming are not permitted during children’s classes. This rule forms part of our Terms and Conditions of membership. |
| Harm at drop-off or collection | Children remain in the training venue under coach supervision until collected by a parent or guardian. Parents and guardians must collect children from the training area. |
| Bullying or harm from peers | Coaches supervise all classes and apply our code of behaviour. Concerns raised by children or parents are acted on by the Designated Liaison Person. |
| Inappropriate communication with children | Coaches do not communicate privately with children by phone, message or social media. All communication about children’s classes is with parents and guardians. |
Procedures
This Child Safeguarding Statement is supported by our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, which sets out:
- our procedure for reporting a child protection or welfare concern to Tusla, the Child and Family Agency;
- our procedure for maintaining a list of the persons (if any) in the service who are mandated persons under the Children First Act 2015;
- our procedure for appointing a relevant person;
- our recruitment, Garda vetting and safeguarding training procedures for coaches working with children;
- our codes of behaviour for coaches, children and parents or guardians;
- our procedures for the safe collection of children and for dealing with complaints.

Any concern about the protection or welfare of a child at our club should be brought to the Designated Liaison Person. Concerns may also be reported directly to Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, or to An Garda Síochána.
Implementation and review
We recognise that implementation is an ongoing process. Our club is committed to the implementation of this Child Safeguarding Statement and the procedures that support it. This statement was adopted on 1 August 2026 by Luis Henrique “Ique” Linck Miller, Head Coach, and will be reviewed no later than 1 August 2028, or sooner if there is a material change in the service we provide or in the relevant legislation or guidance.
